In 1990 Hildegard won the Kirstenbosch Scholarship. This was the start of her long association with South African flora, including the disas. Later permanent employment at Kirstenbosch Botanic Garden (Cape Town), gave her the opportunity to care for and maintain the disa collection for many years.
Publications
Include co-authoring the “Grow Disas” book with Graham Duncan and published by South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).
Several articles in the Veld and Flora magazine, (Botanical Society South Africa),
as well as the South African Orchid Journal.
